My husband and I built our new house 3 years ago in a small Arkansas town. Everyday we both feel so blessed to call this house our home! I believe the style of our home would be classified as Rustic Farmhouse. We believed in keeping all of the rooms a single color so it flowed together, open floor plan, many antique elements. However in this post I am going to show you my top 5 decor items that I have in my home!
5. Antique Pineapple Glass Pendant Lights
Y'all these lights were atrocious when I first inherited them. Top and Bottom caps were a rustic gold and just not very appealing (check out this link for a reference https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/pineapple-glass-swag-lamp-vintage-mid-1927031487) but i loved the design and not to mention the hanging crystals - AWESOME! My family thought i was crazy until I chalk painted the tops and bottoms and sanded down the design elements to let just a little golf peak though. They are sooo gorgeous in person! I have two of these lights hanging above our island and they are the perfect rendition of "dont judge an item by its hideous gold paint".
4. Our Farmhouse Table and Chairs
I love this table. It is absolutely perfect! An amazing family friend built this for us and we were overjoyed with how it turned out. The top of the table is stained with minwax dark walnut (This is a theme is our house) and the frame is chalk painted and sanded white. I make my own chalk paint i will share the recipe it is so easy! My captains chairs are from wayfair they aren't exactly was i was hoping for our table but i haven't ever found anything better to replace them with. My side chairs are another love of mine. All 6 of them were found at a Food Pantry in my home town for a steal!! Of course they were in pretty rough shape when I first for them and thankfully my mom helped me reupholster all of them the week before I was hosting Thanksgiving at my house -haha. We updated the cushions with a natural linen (not stain friendly FYI) and chalk painted all of them and sanded them to a rustic finish.
3. Large Print Photos in Master Bedroom
I find myself all the time sitting in bed looking at the last photo of my son sleeping and being astonished at how much hes grown. It breaks a mamma's heart but its so sweet at the same time. I had all of these photos printed at Walgreens and y'all they only took 30 minutes! I was amazed! Each photo is 30" x 20". Walgreens is always having coupons on prints like this as well. I choose to print them all in black and white. The frames I got a Walmart these is absolutely nothing fancy about them. They are not glass, just plastic, but they seriously look great and was very cost effective since I wanted to have so many. 2. My Farm fresh Nesting Box
A friend of my brother had mentioned to my parents he was going to knock down a shed but there was a couple piece in there that I might want. So one day we loaded up and took a trip down the gravel road to this shed that was about half blown over and found this jewel. I looove this piece! The weathering, the cobwebs (that we clean out - promise) just everything about it was so cool to me. I am so happy to have it and so is my son, he loves to hide things in the compartments.
1. Custom pen and ink drawing of our home
Words truly cant express how much this drawing means to me. My husbands best friends mother drew this for us. She is one of the most talented ladies that I know. We got this drawing framed at Hobby Lobby. The matte is a grey with a black inner lining, it fit perfectly with the ink of the drawing. The frame is a grey washed wooden frame and it blends in perfectly with our home! If you have something that needs framed I highly suggest them, they always have a discount running on custom framing too!
So that is my list of my top favorites when it comes to my decor in my home, I would say all of these pieces are so priceless to me. I have sooo many things in my house though that also mean a lot to me so be ready there is much more to come!
